Tallahassee, FL- We are now 3 years from the implementation of lockdowns, masks, and social distancing, but a new study done at the Florida State Department of Psychology insists that we are now more socially distanced than ever.
“It seems as though people never realized how much they disliked other people until Covid hit,” social psychologist Dr. Robert Perth explained, “97 percent of people we have done studies on recently say they still socially distance themselves from other humans just to avoid any human interaction.” Dr. Perth and his colleagues say they think it goes back to before Covid, and we just didn’t realize it.
“We firmly believe that people have hated social contact with one another for centuries, but it wasn’t as widely accepted as it is now,” Perth explained, “The majority of our older demographic said that they have hated talking to other humans their entire lives but were afraid if they didn’t socialize they would be labeled as rude or ignorant.”
The younger crowd says similar things, “I used to fake being sick so I didn’t have to go out with friends,” 34-year-old Mary Breckman said, “Now I just straight up tell them that I hate socializing and I’d rather lock myself in my apartment and watch Grey’s Anatomy all night. They’re usually pretty understanding because most of them end up doing the same thing.”
“That’s very common with the 25 to 40-year-old age range we’ve noticed,” Dr. Perth said of the anti-social demographics, “They are the first of the somewhat “coddled” generation where things like social anxiety were treated as a disorder as opposed to something you had to just fight through. So yeah, they, along with the younger generations, are going to be more prone to hate socializing.”
In further discussions with Dr. Perth, he and his colleagues are pretty sure that within this century we will all just live in a simulation where we wake up each morning and put on VR packs and lay in bed all day living in a different reality. What do you think? Do you hate socializing with other humans? Tell us in the comments!
